New Venture to Boost Private Sector Agriculture in East Africa

Investments to benefit small-scale farmers

The Rockefeller Foundation and other donors have established Africa Agricultural Capital, a new venture based in Kampala, Uganda to invest in small and medium-sized agriculture-related businesses in East Africa. Africa Agricultural Capital will make investments of between $100,000 and $1 million in businesses which have the potential to expand and deliver products and services to small-scale farmers and rural communities throughout East Africa. In the past, investment in private sector agriculture in the region has been limited -- despite the fact that East Africa’s agricultural sector has many entrepreneurs with viable plans for creating successful businesses.

The Rockefeller Foundation’s investment in Africa Agricultural Capital will strengthen its own programs to help local businesses deliver improved seeds and soil enhancement packages to small-scale farmers, thereby advancing agriculture and reducing poverty in Africa.
